Describe your involvement with the co-op. My wife and I have been involved with the co-op since we joined two years ago. We’ve enjoyed tabling at events, getting the sweet T-shirts, meeting the members of our community, and making new friends. We have come to know so many amazing people, and are grateful for our connections thanks to the co-op. More recently we worked with the Online Ordering short circle, determining whether an online grocery ordering aspect of the co-op would be beneficial or financially feasible, and how it might add value to our current members.
Do you have any other relevant experience? I work as a project manager within manufacturing, so I look forward to understanding what our members and community value most, and then strategically planning to help us achieve our goals using good facilitation, organization, and project management. I also helped advise WMU’s winning team for the local Wege Prize in 2015, with their “Local Loop” entry which focused on circular economies within its own community, by growing fish and vegetables within its aquaponic greenhouse, and recycling various waste streams back into useful products.
What should the co-op's role be in the broader community? Co-ops should be central to strengthening their community. They are a way for businesses to represent their member’s values, bring neighbors together with farmers, strengthen the local economy by investing in it, and build equity amongst its people – all through good food. Co-ops should be driving forces of positive change within our community, and the collective ownership model offers us many possibilities to chart our own path together.
Are there other statements relevant to your candidacy that member owners should know? I would love to hear your ideas about the co-op, grocery stores, how the co-op might best serve you, or how we might best serve our community. I look forward to meeting you, understanding what you want to see out of the co-op, and collaborating to get us there.
